Recruiters are searching. Can they find you? LinkedIn for students By Privatus Cosmas 2026-10-29 https://depriver.tech/blog/linkedin-for-students/ A student's guide to LinkedIn: photo, headline formula, a human About section, FPT as experience, featured projects, recommendations, and a 20-minute weekly routine. Recruiters and senior developers search LinkedIn before they shortlist. If your profile says "Student at university" with no photo and 12 connections, they'll scroll past. Here's how to fix that in a weekend, then keep it alive in 20 minutes a week. *LinkedIn kwa wanafunzi.* ## Start with your photo and headline Use a clear photo of your face (not a group photo), plus a simple banner that says what you do. **Headline formula: role · main skills · proof** - ❌ "Student at university" - ❌ "Looking for opportunities" - ✅ "Junior Web Developer · Laravel & React · Built a POS for a Mbeya shop" - ✅ "IT Support · Networks & hardware · FPT at a regional hospital" Use the words recruiters search for: the job title you want. ## Write your About like a human Three to five sentences, in the first person, with no buzzwords. Cover who you are, what you've done and what you want next: > *I'm a Computer Science graduate from MUST who loves building simple tools for small businesses. During my field training I set up office networks and built an equipment tracker. Right now I'm learning Docker and looking for a junior developer role. Let's connect.* ## Fill it with proof 1. **FPT counts as experience.** Add it like a job: role, company, months, what you did. 2. **The Featured section:** pin your best project, your GitHub and your CV. 3. **Skills:** add 5–10 real skills you can talk about in an interview. 4. **Recommendations:** ask your FPT supervisor for a two-line recommendation. 5. **Certificates:** Cisco, Microsoft Learn, Huawei. Add them all. ## 20 minutes a week - **Monday:** connect with 5 people in your field, with a short note. Start with alumni from your university. - **Wednesday:** comment something useful on 3 posts. - **Friday:** post one thing you learnt or built this week. People hire people they know, so let them know you. *Julikana.* ## Don't do this - No photo, or a group photo - Copying someone else's About section - "Please hire me" posts. Show your work instead. - Fake titles, like "CEO" of a company with no product - Disappearing for a year **Drop your LinkedIn link in the comments** and let's connect. Niambie kwenye comments.
